Most of Linden's summer programming lands in one stretch of one street. The Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade at 400 North Wood Avenue has been running free concerts, comedy nights, and community events since May, and the last few dates on the 2026 calendar are the ones worth planning around. If you already live here, that concentration is the point: dinner on Wood Avenue, a set at the Promenade, and a Sunday morning at Hawk Rise Sanctuary is a full weekend that never sends you out of town.
Here is what is still on the calendar, and how to build a night around it.
The Summer Entertainment Series Is Almost Over
The city's flagship summer program is a longer run than most residents realize. Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Linden City Council, the Department of Parks & Recreation, the Department of Transportation and Properties, and Uptown Linden Inc. announced the 2026 Summer Entertainment Series running on select evenings from May 21 through Sept. 1, 2026, at the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade, located at 400 North Wood Avenue in Linden.

Comedy Under the Stars runs Thursday, August 20, 2026 from 6:30pm until 9pm at the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade, 400 North Wood Avenue. It is a free event and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Sensational Soul Cruisers close the series on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 7pm until 8:30pm at the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade, 400 North Wood Avenue, also free with first-come, first-served seating.
A few practical notes if you have not been before. Doors for concerts open at 6 p.m., with performances beginning at 7 p.m. Comedy Under the Stars events begin at 6:30 p.m., while House Music events start at 4:30 p.m. First-come seating means people who show up right at 6 for a 7 o'clock show tend to get real chairs. Arrive at 6:45 and you are standing or hauling a folding chair from the trunk. That is the whole trick.
Tuesday Aug 4: National Night Out on Wood Ave
Before the Promenade dates, there is a full street event this week. Linden Police Community Night Out is Tuesday 8/4 from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wood Ave, with free food, family-friendly activities, and giveaways. It shuts down a chunk of the same corridor the Promenade sits on, so if you have never made it to a Summer Entertainment night, this is the low-commitment way to walk the strip and see which restaurants have outdoor seating on a weekday evening.

Where to Eat Before or After
The reason to treat the Promenade as a hub, rather than a one-off destination, is that Wood Avenue and St. Georges Avenue now hold enough restaurants to make a real pre-show dinner plan. A quick tour of what has opened or re-opened in recent years:
- Linden Rotisserie. A Cuban-rooted fast-casual concept from a family that spent decades in food before landing here. The owners describe it as a fast casual restaurant concept they would want to use as clients themselves, built around hearty, flavorful comfort food that can be eaten every day at affordable prices. Hours are 11am to 9pm every day except Sundays, which run 12pm to 7pm. Good for a fast pre-concert plate that will not stall out at 6:45.
- Blue Sunday Bar & Grill. A newer sit-down room that opened as a bar-and-grill hybrid on the north end of the corridor, covered by TAPinto Linden when it launched. Bar seating on a Thursday if you are heading to Comedy Under the Stars.
- Kitchen 27. Kitchen 27 opened in Linden at 200 W. St. George Ave. One block off the Promenade axis, and a good option when Wood Avenue itself is closed for a street event.
- Linwood Inn Taphouse and Pizza. Beer list plus pizza, which is a fair description of what most people actually want the night of a free outdoor show.
- Primavera's Cafe & Ristorante. The long incumbent. Primavera's has been family-owned and operated in Linden for almost 15 years, and after a move from North Stiles Street, opened in a new location on St. Georges Ave. with a new menu. The version most residents remember from a decade ago is not the version you get today.
None of these are destination dining. That is the point. If you have out-of-town family visiting the weekend of Aug 20, you can put a Comedy Under the Stars set on the itinerary without asking anyone to drive to Cranford or Rahway for dinner first.
The Sunday Morning Half of the Weekend
The other piece of late-summer Linden that residents underuse is Hawk Rise Sanctuary. NJ Audubon runs guided programs there through the summer, and the next scheduled one is worth flagging. NJ Audubon's Summer Stroll at Hawk Rise Sanctuary is Sunday, Aug 16, 2026, from 8:00 AM onwards. An 8 a.m. start is early, but August humidity in North Jersey makes early the correct move. The sanctuary sits on what was industrial land, which is not the story most people expect when they hear "Audubon walk in Union County," and it is a reasonable answer to the question of what you do with a Sunday morning here that does not involve a car trip.
Pair that with a late breakfast on Wood Avenue and you have used the neighborhood the way it is built to be used.
Why This Matters for a Weekend Plan
The Summer Entertainment Series has been running for years, but the interesting shift is around it, not in it. Wood Avenue's restaurant density has picked up enough in the last few years that the Promenade is no longer a standalone amenity you drive to and drive home from. Linden Rotisserie, Blue Sunday, and the Taphouse were not all here five summers ago. The corridor now supports a full evening rather than a single event.
That is a small change in a market like this, but it is a real one. When residents think about whether their neighborhood has anywhere to go on a Tuesday night, the honest answer in Linden in August 2026 is yes, within a short walk of one address.
Two dates left on the Promenade calendar. One more Audubon walk. A handful of restaurants that were not open the last time you checked. That is the working late-summer weekend here, and it does not require leaving Linden to assemble.
